Heavy Metal Contamination Removal

Heavy Metal Removal

Heavy Metal Removal Invention Surprises Treatment Operators!

A new chemical blend named MetFloc™ works so well for heavy metal removal from waste water that it seems impossible: faster reaction times, removal of 21 identified heavy metals in one pass, and reduced sludge volumes. The metals include copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn, chrome (Cr), and cadmium (Cd). Complicated treatment routines with multiple chemicals are eliminated. Wastes can be mixed, with no need to separate waste streams. A bonus is the elimination of the common sulfur smell generated by other processes.

The patent-pending MetFloc process, now available from Genotech, reduces treatment costs, meets or betters discharge limits, and lowers the risk of discharge violations. With more predictable treatment results, automation becomes possible, and company boards of directors can view the waste treatment process with confidence.

The MetFloc Process

MetFloc chemicals are key to the process. Even the presence of metal complex or interfering agents (such as ammonia, sulfates, soaps, etc.) does not reduce the effectiveness of the MetFloc process in bringing metal levels to below compliance discharge limits in a single pass. The MetFloc process does so instantaneously and without multiple pH adjustments. Sludge volume is reduced, and sludge is easier to dewater. Even chrome waste is reduced to total chrome below discharge limits in one pass. Low metal wastes can be removed to ppb levels.

MetFloc chemicals compete with commodity solutions such as caustic soda, ferric chloride, ferrous sulfate, lime and acid additives, or proprietary metal grabbers. The MetFloc solution is more cost effective, provides better results, lowers operator costs, requires fewer tanks, and simplifies hardware. For the first time, small waste generators can treat heavy metal waste streams onsite, lowering hauling charges dramatically. Packaged batch and continuous heavy metal treatment systems available from Genotech make batches as small as 50 gallons economical. Please see the following:
